FAQ

Why are we doing this?
Well, for one K-SHE 95 has the World Record for longest continuous rock station right? That's worth celebrating.

Who is the St. Louis Classic Rock Preservation Society?
The Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is "to preserve, promote and honor St. Louis' unique classic rock heritage and its place in music and pop culture history".You can find our tax letter and other information by clicking:this link here.

You may have heard of us from one of our online radio stations, particpation and/or assistance in various documentaries and books, or you may have heard about our KEEP LIVE ALIVE SAINT LOUIS program from March 2021, or our ST. LOUIS AREA HIGH SCHOOLS ART GRANT given in January, 2022.

Maybe you've seen us provide "props" to various K-SHE events like the Groove Lamp, or the K-SHE sign.

Or perhaps you're already one of our 500+ members.

Anyone I know on the St. Louis Classic Rock Preservation Society team?
We'll just name all of the Board of Directors off for you:
  • Greg Hagglund
  • Ken Krueger
  • Sue Moody
  • David Mueller
  • John Sebben
  • Ron Stevens
  • Jack Twesten

In addition, Randy Raley was a co-founder of the organization in 2016, and Gary Kolander is an advisor.

You can get a fuller background of each individual plus some others in our inner circle who helped out with KEEP LIVE ALIVE SAINT LOUIS by clicking this bio page rather than having to scroll through it all in this FAQ

So is my donation tax deductible?
Depends on if you get a item or not. At the October 15th concert if you buy a shirt, yes the proceeds go to the fundraising but you got some product. After the event, we will open up general donations which will have various gifts at various donations levels.

Those may or may not be tax deductible depending on what it is.

As often suggested, consult with your tax preparer when the time comes.

Please note, that in January of each new year, the Society will mail letters to anyone or any company or organization that has donated over $250 during the previous year.

How do I get a shirt anyway?
You can for $15 at the October 15th concert. After that we will be gifting them and a chance to be part of the time capsule for anyone who donates $75 or more.

What is this time capsule?
It's, well it's a time capsule, and it will be part of the marker design. We will have photos from the October 15th event, and other Crestwood 75th Anniversary events put on a flash drive or similar media along with other bits of history. Anyone who donates $75 or more can send us a photo of something K-SHE, rock, or Crestwood related.

It could be you in a Sweetmeat shirt meeting your favorite DJ, or a story about your job at the 66 Park-In, or a visit to The Window.

Maybe it's a photo of all of your ticket stubs. As long as it's K-SHE, rock or Crestwood related it can go in the collection.

What other stuff do I get?
Any donation of $75 or more also gets a lifetime membership into the St. Louis Classic Rock Preservation Society which gets some extra swag, and puts you into monthly members-only raffles that include some of the documentaries and books previously mentioned, concert tickets, memorabilia and more.

From time to time we will also have special raffles, auctions, and events with more swag.

When do general donations open?
We are going to take a short break after the October 15th event and get a donation widget created here in the following week.

Why is the 66 Park-In also getting a plaque on the marker?
The site the marker will stand on will in the Schnuck's parking lot, most of which was one time the 66 Park-In. It's a bit of a kill two birds with one stone idea.

Why is the 75th Anniversary of Crestwood getting a plaque on the marker?
The conversation of historical markers in Crestwood began with the various ideas the city's 75th Anniversary Committee had on how to celebrate. Strong connections with local businesses, especially Woodard and Schnucks, the main sponsors of the 75th Anniversary, were made even stronger with these ideas and events. This plaque will also note the contributions by these two sponsors.

When will the marker be installed?
It depends on how the planning process goes and how fast the funds can be raised.

Why won't it be installed where the building actually was? Or the antenna?
Check out this photo from above.

Most of the original building is on (under actualy since the grade changed) paved surface that are trafficways.

The antenna's location, while on grass, is in a narrow location that you would have to cross a trafficway to see. Safety would be of great concern there, so the marker will be just to the west of the building, very much in line with the front door and K-SHE sign's previous locations.

How much will this cost?
We only got permission from the property owner (Schnuck's landlord) to do this on September 30th, 2022. We will have much discussion not just on the marker but what else will need to be done to the land and parking lot around it.

What happens with any excess funds raised?
Any funds that go above and beyond what is needed for this marker will go towards smaller historical markers around the City of Crestwood. Think of the "boulder with plaque surrounded by native plants" motif.

Some examples might include the various icons that are on the compass like Sappington House, or Route 66 destinations like the first McDonalds in Missouri.

Permission from each site's owners would be necessary and the aesthetics of each may vary site by site dependant on the owners' tastes.

Once complete, who will maintain the markers?
Maintenance will be carried out by the St. Louis Classic Rock Preservation Society.
